How To Create A Custom Live Feed For Your Favorite Facebook App

With the February Facebook update, we lost the ability to automatically create Live Feed lists of our favorite games and apps. For all you gaming fans out there, here is how to create your own bookmarked Live Feeds:

1. You will first need to know how to create a bookmark in your browser. If you do not, please consult the help section of the browser itself.

2. You will need to find the app ID# of the game you wish to create a Live Feed for. To do this, go to your Account drop down menu and select Application Settings.

3. Find the game you wish to set up first, and click the Profile link shown on the right. This will open up the app for you. Look at the url that appears in your browser, and make note of the ID# that appears at the end of it, as shown below:

4. Now type the following url into your browser bar, replacing the 0’s with your favorite app’s ID# onto the end, as shown below:

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?filter=app_0000000000

5. Press Enter (or Go, or whatever your particular browser calls it), and you should now have a Live Feed of recent status updates for the app you wanted.

6. Now simply bookmark the page, naming it something similar to “XXX Game Feed”.

To save you all some steps above, I have included a list of popular Facebook app links below for you:

Mafia Warshttp://www.facebook.com/?filter=app_10979261223

FarmVillehttp://www.facebook.com/?filter=app_102452128776

Now if facebook would only add back in the “show hidden” command on the filtered feeds, we could actually clean up the main feed and actually see real posts, and go to the game feed when needed like i used to do. quit a lot of games when I couldnt filter them from the main feed and view them on demand.

    • Joanne Dolles says:

Rose, your friends and family do not need to block you…They just need to block the app or game. They can do this by clicking on the block button in the top right corner of your news post and then they are given the option of blocking you, or just blocking the game. Hopefully they will select just the game :)

I bookmarked the live feeds for Happy Aquarium, Cafe World & Farmville yesterday and it worked perfectly!!! LOVED IT! Today, they don’t work. The bookmark just goes to my regular Facebook news feed. :o ) Anyone know why?

    • Joanne Dolles says:

Yes, we are seeing other reports that this stopped working as well. It stopped on mine too. Not sure though if it is temporary or permanent…

      • Zoffix Znet says:

I notice that it doesn’t actually stop working, but the most newest items just appear in the filter. If you simply scroll down about a screen, then you’ll see just the filtered app posts.

        • Joanne Dolles says:

You are right! I just checked one of my bookmarked apps, and after the newest 10 status updates or so, the filtered app posts all begin to appear.

You can still get your feeds, you just have to scroll past the first page then it will go to the news feed for that particular game. hope that helps

This trick stopped working sometime this evening. I clicked on my bookmark for my FV feed and, even though it says it’s filtering only that app, it doesn’t. It looks just like my home page now.
I just tried to create a new one, too and same thing happened. I haven’t checked my other games but Farmville doesn’t seem to be working at all anymore for some reason. :P

I was soooo happy to have this fix to filter my feeds and it worked great … until yesterday when it stopped working completely … the filtered links simply display my home page. Did Facebook decide they didn’t want us doing this or something? grrrrr

As of 3/10/10 this seems to no longer work. Is it temporary or did the application ID’s change?

  8. Terryll Rex says:

This is what I was already using for Vamp Wars and it isn’t working

I hope it’s ok to put this here but I know that if you use Google Chrome and have the Stylish extension (might work for Firefox, too) there is a Style that will give you back your FV feed. I don’t understand CSS script but I found that style this morning and it has been working great for me.

Just thought I would pass that along if anyone else wanted to try it. I’m sure it would work for other games if I understood the little bit of coding…which I don’t yet. LOL

There is no app ID for Country Story.

I tried this & worked perfectly fine. (using google chrome, scroll down on the page) I think it depends on the time of the last who posted that game then it will show all the ’similar posts’) I play a lot of games & this is very useful for me. TYSM for this. I am so sharing this to game addicts like me =)

    Doesn’t work anymore. :(

First, thank you for your site! Very informative and well put together. I am addicted to many of the facebook games and spend way too much time going from profile to profile trying to collect bonus items. I found your site after a google search looking for a way to see post just about Mafia Wars, Cafe World etc. I think I actually did a little dance when I saw there was a way to do this… until I tried it and then read the comments that it no longer works.

Is there an update on if there is another way to get the same results?

It seems like Facebook would create another feed labeled Apps or Games… just like how ‘Top News’ and “Most recent’ is done. Only games and apps would be posted there. That way the home page wouldn’t be cluttered with game postings and apps and people would not have to worry about blocking game after game. Plus those of us that are into games could do some ‘one stop shopping’ for bonus items.

My fix is no where as good as having all the game postings show up at once but here is my temporary fix that helps a little bit. I created a group for each game (under accounts, edit friends then create new list), then put each friend that plays that game into that particular group. After everyone was grouped off I can then click on the ‘friends’ link (on the left under the news feed heading), then whatever game group I want. This shows all the posts for the friends listed under that game leaving everyone else out. Granted you still see the non-game posts by those friends in that game group but it helps weed things down a little better.

If there is an easier way to do what I mentioned above please don’t tell me because it took me many hours to put all my friends under the different games they play. :) The other good thing about this is when I do post a bonus for a game I select that game group and only the friends I have listed under that game see it – while my other friends are not bothered with those postings. Thanks again for the site.
