Top 10 Facebook Applications For January 11, 2010
Our Top 10 list adjusts a little this week to allow for the addition of an older application, recently added to the metrics group we use to track usage each week. iHeart, which has been an extremely popular application on Facebook for some time now, jumps onto our list in the #3 spot.
The addition of iHeart bumps some regulars such as Pet Society off the list week, as it continues to face stiff competition from the ever rising newer PetVille game, developed by Zynga. Interestingly though, FarmVille, Cafe World and Mafia Wars have all been experiencing user decline over the past few weeks. Mafia Wars alone has lost almost 5 million players in the last 6 weeks.

Topping our Top 10 Gainers list for the week is Pillow Fight. It’s a time-sensitive game allowing you to pillow fight with your friends, crushes, affair, love or enemies. The winner is declared within two days if the opponent fails to hit you back.
Next is a newer game called Tiki Farm, that seems to be a cross between Happy Island and FarmVille. You get to farm on an island, grow pineapple or sugacaner to please the Tiki Spirits, and yes, even wear grass skirts!
Rounding out the top 3 gainers is an application sure to appeal to the younger crowd – Graffiti. This app allows you to draw on the photos of your friends. Could be fun!
As predicted last week, Dantes Inferno appears on this weeks list as well.

This past weeks Top 10 Gainers list showcases a few new applications worthy of a look. Blingee Book gained an extremely impressive 8+ million users. This app allows you to add animated graphics, comments, and all sorts of goodies to your pictures for fun or glamour. A few of the comments on their discussion board detail user frustrations with the number of Blingee’s appearing on their wall – easily remedied by clicking the Block Application link located at the top left of the application page, under the app photo.
**TIP** You can block any application directly on its app homepage, by clicking on the Block Application link.
Our Featured App this week does not appear on either of our lists, but we expect to see it soon: Dante’s Inferno.
This new strategy game is based on EA’s game released in back in February, and is adapted for Facebook by Lolapps, Inc. From the developers:
Become Dante, returning home from the Crusades to find your wife has been murdered and her soul sent to Hell. Fight through the Nine Circles of Hell and get Beatrice back!
Reviews so far seem very positive – apart from one player claiming the game idea was stolen from him. Otherwise, this one looks to be a great way to eliminate your gaming boredom and start the new year off with something fresh!

As the year comes to a close, this is the last Top 10 list that we will be posting for 2009!
There are not many changes in this weeks list – just a jostling of positioning for our regulars. FarmVille of course still firmly holds onto the #1 spot, with very little movement in total users over the holiday.

There are plenty of new faces on this weeks Top Gainers list, including two super applications to round out your year on Facebook.
My Year In Status is a neat application that pulls a random selection of your status’s from the year, and puts them into a collage. You have a choice of templates to post them onto, and can edit up the caption you wish to appear. Unfortunately you cannot select which specific status updates appear on the list, but the application is new and hopefully open for improvement. Definitely worth your time to take a look.
By the same developer as above, My Year In Photos has also been released. Similar to the Status collage, this takes 16 random photos from your albums and places them into a collage. Here you can choose which ones you would like to appear, as well as the look of the frame the photos appear in. I absolutely love this idea and it was fun clicking through the photos to make up our image. This app falls just short of our Top 10 list (#13), but I suspect will be near the top next week.
Toping the list this week is a new application geared specifically for the Italian community on Facebook. Incontra gente gives users the opportunity to connect as the application has been completely designed in Italian. Definitely worth a look if you are looking for a little Italy!
CrowdStar, the developers of Happy Aquarium and Happy Pets, has released its latest virtual world – Happy Island. Reviews so far are very positive and as the players flock over, the game will definitely grow and expand. Worth a look

With the busy holiday season upon us, our Top 10 Facebook Applications list is proving people are finding a little less time to visit their favorite applications over the past week.
The overall monthly average users for almost all of our Top 10 list dropped this past week, with the exception of FarmVille and Birthday Cards. Causes lost another 3 million users, FarmVille experienced a very modest gain of players, and Birthday Cards zoomed up to our #3 spot.
A new addition to the list this week is Facebook for iPhone in the #10 position. As more people are on the go, out and about, this app that integrates Facebook onto your iPhone is surely going to get even more popular this season.

Nothing overly exciting appearing on our Top 10 Gainers this week. Most of the apps experiencing gains are seasonal ones that will most likely be dropping off in the next week or two. However, it is interesting to see that Zynga’s new PetVille seems to be growing much slower than it’s popular sister games; FishVille, Cafe World and FarmVille.

Cafe World has moved right up into the #2 spot, while both Causes and Social Interview lost between 3,000,000 and 4,000,000 actively monthly users over this past week. I suspect the “newness” of Social Interview wearing off is the root of its’ drop, but if anyone has any insight into Causes dropping so drastically, we would love to hear your opinions in the Comments section below!
Birthday Cards makes its first appearance on our list this week; the result of millions sending Holiday Greeting cards to friends and family.

Our App of The Week, not shown on either of our lists, but one I am positive we will see shortly is Zynga’s new PetVille. Just released onto Facebook back on December 2nd, and already gaining 944,000+ users, PetVille is sure to be a chart addition next week.
PetVille – Create your own virtual pet, decorate his/her home, and help keep him clean! It so far seems to be a cross between YoVille and Pet Society. Keep in mind it’s in beta, so there are likely the usual Zynga related wonkiness to work out. Worth a look…

We have two new additions to our Top 10 Facebook Applications list, with one zooming up out of no where and the other my prediction from last week.
I predicted last week that we would see FishVille not only in our Top 10, but in the #7 position. I was close! FishVille made it to #8 as of this mornings’ application data. In just a few short weeks we have seen over 20 million new players start their aquarium collection.
However, the big news today is the surge of Social Interview out of nowhere to land at #3, with a whopping 31 million users. Social Interview asks you 20-25 questions about your friends and your life.
The reviews on this application are extremely positive! One review in particular summed up what I suspect makes Social Interview so appealing:

On our Top 10 Gainers list this week, we are seeing a few new ones worth your time to check out:
Fish Isle – Escape from the hustle and bustle of land living and move out to sea in Fish Isle! Create your own fish farm, decorate your personal tropical getaway, visit friends on nearby islands, and much, much more.
Reviews of Fish Isle so far are extremely positive. There seems to be a few connectivity issues, but that has been the norm for all too many applications the past week or two, so don’t use that as a gauge of the apps’ entertainment value.
21 Questions seems to be gathering mixed reviews and is a one time use app until the developers start mixing up their content. Otherwise, some good fun.

Once again we see the usual suspects topping the Top 10 Facebook Applications leader board!
FarmVille, Causes and Cafe World hold onto first, second and third respectively. Causes did lose about 500,000 users, allowing Cafe World the opportunity to creep up a little closer to that second spot.

Continuing to gain massive ground on our Top 10 list is FishVille, with an impressive 6.7 million additional users this past week. You don’t see it on this weeks list as it falls into the 13th spot of our Top 10, but based on the past few weeks, I suspect we will see it around #7 next week!
Also closing in on our Top 10 list is Facebook for iPhone; a fabulous application for those of you wanting to take Facebook off your desktop PC.
There are a few interesting new applications gracing our Top Gainers list week as well, including some seasonal goofy fun from an app called Snowball Fight.
The “New App On The Block” goes out to Happy Pets, developed by CrowdStar; the makers of Happy Aquarium. Happy Pets is a game where you can take care of a variety of pets. Decorate rooms, feed and play with your pets and watch them grow and be happy. With the super success of Happy Aquarium, I don’t doubt we will see Happy Pets nearing the Top 10 soon.
Our “App Warning” goes out to Moment of Truth; one of those scary apps where we can supposedly find out what people honestly think about us. Reports are this one is full of spam, and won’t allow you to disable posting to your wall – most likely the reason it has gained so many users this past week. If this app continues to insist on publishing with out permission, I suspect Facebook will have it pulled shortly…
If you are looking for more animal fun, take a peek at Zoo World developed by RockYou!. It looks to be a fun game where you can build up your own zoo, collect and breed animals, hunt for treasure, and trade with your friends. We will be keeping our eye on this one!

Once again it’s time for our Top 10 Facebook Applications, and a new addition to our weekly updates – the Top 10 Facebook App Gainers of The Week.

The big news this past week is the rise, fall, and then rise again of Zynga’s new FishVille. After being taken offline by Facebook for some questionable advertising connections earlier last week, FishVille opened back up and the players flooded right in.
Happy Aquarium gained approximately 16 million users over the past month, but FishVille looks like it will easily surpass that, with an astounding 9+ million new user’s filling up their new fish tanks with goodies this week alone.
The “New App On The Block” goes out to Addict – an application that supposedly reveals your Facebook addiction level. However, before you rush out to try this one, read the reviews. Almost every single reviewer is reporting major spam issues after installing the application.
