Facebook Rumor: How To Remove “Who Is Now Friends With Who”

Since Facebooks’ latest update back on December 9th, many of us have been wondering how we can stop the ‘Joe is now friends with Jack’ messages that have re-flooded our walls. After the October update we were able to stop these message via our Privacy settings, but they have now all reappeared.

In a nutshell – we can no longer remove them…

The latest pass-it-around-rumor to hit all of our walls is something similar to:

If you are tired of seeing who becomes friends with who… go to Settings, Privacy, Profile Info, Family & Relationships, Customize and Pick ONLY ME.. everyone will not be able to see who you become friends with. WE NEED TO KEEP POSTING THIS SO PEOPLE WILL SEE IT & DO IT!!!

Unfortunately, with the latest Facebook Privacy update, we no longer have control over a number of details in our accounts. The instructions above DO NOT stop these messages from posting. They only stop people from seeing the Family Members, Relationship Status, Interested In, and Looking For sections of your visible profile.

According to :

Facebook Friends Privacy Policy

As you can see, we are no longer able to control our friends details.

Also, if you follow the instructions provided in the rumor above, at the top of the Privacy -> Profile Settings page you will see the message:

You cannot completely turn off recent activity stories anymore. However, if you want to remove a particular story that currently shows up, simply click the “Remove” button that appears to the right of the story after you move your mouse over it.

We know this new policy, along with the automatic posting of every Page we join, has millions of Facebook users extremely frustrated.

The showing of all Pages we belong to is directly connected with Facebook’s push to bring in new Brand name advertisers. These advertisers are more apt to create a Fan Page on Facebook, knowing that visual “word of mouth” marketing is in place.

However, why we need to see who became friends with who is still unknown…

For those of you using Firefox, there are several greasemonkey scripts that will hide these unwanted items.

It sounds like you may have blocked some applications. Go to your News Feed (not Live Feed), go to the bottom of the page and click on the Edit Options, then Applications. If any of your favorite games are on this list, click the Add To News Feed link and they will appear back on your Live Feed.

On your Live Feed page, go to the bottom, click on Edit Options, and change the 250 in the “Maximum number of friends shown in Live Feed” box to 5000. Now all your friends game posts will appear as well.

Firefox & FP Purity seems to do the trick.

I rather like the “John became friends with Mary” posts: if John is my friend, it is quite possible that I also know Mary, and this is a good way to find out that Mary is now on Facebook–I might also want to friend her. What’s wrong with that?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the posts – I don’t mind them myself at times. I think the majority of users who are frustrated with it have the concern that who they become friends with should be a privacy issue – that it should be up to the individual user to decide if they want this info publicly posted or not.

My problem with all the this person became friends with that person is some of my friends seem to become friends with as many as possible per day, and it takes up way too much space on the page where I could be seeing something I find more interesting to me, on the other hand I do sometimes check out the person or persons that my friends have become friends with to see if I might be interested in adding them to my friends list, if not I just remove the names.

This feature of seeing who became friends with who is a pain in the neck. I don’t care who became friends with who! It just takes up space on my page.
