FrontierVille: Best FrontierVille Crops

Planting crops on your FrontierVille homestead is a valuable way to not only earn gold, but experience and food as well. As in any game, some crops are more valuable than others, but for different reasons. Once you decide if you want to level quickly, build up your gold faster, or stockpile food, use the chart below which details each FrontierVille crop as it is released.

Planting your crops requires no energy, which makes this a great task to complete before you are ready to sign off. Just remember to come back before they wither!

The wither time for a crop is twice what it takes to mature. Therefore, if a crop takes 1 hour to reach maturity, it will take 2 hours to wither after it reaches maturation. Once a crop has withered, you must clear or delete it. Clearing withered crops will not cost energy and you are refunded half the original cost.

It does cost 1 energy to harvest each planted crop. However, you are able to hire 2 neighbors each day to complete tasks around your homestead. Choosing 2 neighbors with a high reputation to harvest your crops for you, is a super way to save energy and still gain all the benefits of the crop being harvested.

Example: If you have a neighbor with a reputation level of 26, you will earn 26 XP for them harvesting crops/trees/animals for you.

FrontierVille Crop Chart

Note: Since you are able to hire neighbors to harvest your crops, we have assumed no energy cost to harvest in the calculations below. Keep this in mind when making your planting decisions.

Great post! I cleared out my plot of land and I am now working on the crops to bump up my level… How do you get the paint and the hand tools Is that only by friends? You have built your general store already did you buy the equipment with the horseshoes or did you have your neighbors help you out?

I received all of my general store items, except for 2 paint cans, from neighbors. I am now working on the barn, and refuse to use horseshoes for the supplies this time..lol.. I will wait until I have received them all from friends. Hopefully neighbors will realize the benefit of sending the supplies, and ribbon, versus sending snacks, goats, or trees. The supplies are vital in moving onto the next quest.

I’ve noticed that clover is “lucky.” In addition to coins and XP, you get random bonuses. Sometimes food, sometimes energy, but always something useful. I’m using clover for almost all my crops right now…

You might want to update the food bonus in the crop chart. They cut the amount of food each crop gives in half. And tomatoes no longer give any food at all.

How do you send gifts to your friends? I’ve tried going to the gift page and clicked on Frontier Ville Friends and there is no one there. I’ve tried the other two same thing. It states at the bottom if you don’t see any names then have already sent your friends gifts. But I have not sent anyone any gifts. My friends are sending me gifts every day but I’ve not been able to send gifts to my friends.

That is how you send gifts. I have not heard of anyone else having that same problem so am not sure what to suggest to help… Sorry!

Give it time to load up. Mine took awhile due to the update of the player Zynga uses. Be patient and it will load up. I know – I had the same frustration. If you have to, snooze your anti-virus for a short duration. It may be scanning all the files as they are downloaded. The firewall may also be blocking the content so you may need to change your setting on that one too. Do the app update then the anti-virus snooze first before doing the firewall.

      Hope this helps!

How do you get paint buckets? I don’t see them on my list as possible gifts to send to anyone….

        • Joanne Dolles says:

Each player has 2 of the 5 buildings supplies available to gift to neighbors. You will need to find a neighbor that can gift Paint Buckets to you in order to receive them. Alternatively, you can use horseshoes to purchase them if you run into difficulties.

This is actually pretty misleading. In cafe world this logic worked out because you had a limited number of stoves. You wanted to maximize “profit / time” because space was limited.

In frontierville you have so much more space that the “profit / time” formula is worthless. Instead you want to maximize profit. For example, if you maximized your planting based on how often you could harvest and planted all cotton, you’d harvest 1 plot every 5 minutes for a profit of 600 coins. Over 7 days that’s a total income of about 691,000 ((7 days – 3 days to wait for first crops to mature) * 288 actions performable per day * 600 coin profit). The second week you don’t have the lag time, showing a profit of 1.2 million coins. If you planted something quicker like Pumpkins with a profit of 17 but no lag time, you’d make less than 35,000 (7 days * 288 actions * 17 coin profit).

The fastest way to earn money is to plant the highest profit plant (peanuts right now) as often as possible and keep rolling crops going so you always have something to harvest.

This assumes though that all you can do is 288 actions a day. If you have enough energy to harvest the higher time/hour crops consistently then its worth it although its time consuming

Can someone please tell me ‘without’ having to go thru the ‘whole’ chart what the best crops are to plant,,and how do i turn my pile of wood into real saw horses and is there an easy /quick way to find these darn ‘tools’ on neighbors farms and a quicker way to find the apple pies????,,any help would be SOOOOO appreciated! thx

    • Donna says:

The only ‘easy’ way to find tools I’ve found is troll your “Most Recent” facebook wall as opposed to “Most Popular.” If you have tons and tons of Frontierville friends (I have about 50) usually every moment of every day someone is playing and you can say ‘grab some tools’ or something. I’ve also noticed that you can take tooks from someone else’s wall (for example, my mom plays Frontierville. One of her friends that also plays hired her and posted on her wall to grab some tools. I saw that post and also grabbed some tools.) The only way to get the apple pies is to farm farm farm farm FARM apple trees. I have about 60 on my lot and I’ve been harvesting all of my neighbor trees for about four days and I have four. It takes FOREVER. If you can find someone to give them to you that’s awesome..

My food is also disappearing.. I am not buying anything at all! I want to keep my food up over 2000 just in case I have any quests that require a huge amount of food, then I can get it out of the way quickly. But I notice that at 9pm I will start out with 2300 food and when I wake up in the morning I’ll have 1900 food.. Not those exact amounts, but I am losing hundreds somewhere.. I thought maybe it was because I feed my animals, but found that feeding animals takes no food. I don’t know where it’s going, but it makes me a little crazy!!!

I will start tracking mine and see if I notice anything. I have 26000+ food so never noticed any missing in the past, but will report back what I find out

I am also losing food! Every time I refresh my page to get bonus items from the wall on FB or whatever it seems I’ve lost 15-30 pieces of food. It makes a huge difference to someone who only has 75 pieces of food and after the page is refreshed it says I only have 60.. or I had 99 pieces of food and now it says I have 52.. That’s not even enough for a breakfast!! lol..

My husband quit playing he finished the quest to get married and it started all over on him to where he had to buy a house then plant crops. It was wierd. I have also had the problem that it wants me to add neighbors in order to get the swimming hole yet I have 5 more neighbors than my husband and his did not require it. This game is ripping me off energy saying lost connection after I just bought enegy then it comes back and my pies and enegy and all the work I did are all gone. I quit farmville for this reason and now it looks as if I am getting ready to quit this as well I have been waiting to get a welcome mat for weeks now.

It also took me forever to get the welcome mat. One day when it was time to collect the bonus from the cabin I had my child do it and got the mat. Don’t know if that had anything to do with it but it may be worth a try

One problem with this post is it doesn’t take into consideration the energy input. I can plant 21 clover, wait five minutes and harvest it all. But then I have to wait over an hour and a half to get the energy needed to harvest 21 more. So you could churn and burn as long as you had enough food, collections, gift baskets and horseshoes to turn in for more energy, but I doubt many people could actually collect 36/hour for more than an hour. A lot of my planting is done to fit into my schedule as well. My favorite crop is Peanuts. Very low energy input per profit. I plant cotton and wheat to get the harvest on the days of the week that work for me and Sunflowers to get the harvest at a time of day that’s good for me.

I have about 175 crops in the ground and I wouldn’t be able to harvest if they were short growth rates. The strategy makes money.

I didn’t read all the comments, so I don’t know if this has already been discussed. If it has, I apologize for the duplication.

It’s my understanding that the reputation level of neighbors has no bearing on the number of actions they will be able to perform. All neighbors are able to perform the same number of actions. The reputation level of the neighbors determines the XP bonus you will receive for hiring the neighbor. For instance, if you hire a neighbor with a reputation of 20, then you’ll get a 20 XP bonus. They will not plow 20 crops, though.

Also, please note that you will receive your collectibles, XP & coins, even if you aren’t able to click on them before they disappear.

    Thanks for your tips!

I am having a major problem with my Covered Wagon. I stupidly sold my first covered wagon, then after realizing what I had done, and that I needed it for crafting purposes, I bought another one. Now it won’t let me go inside, and it just says 0/0 whacks 1 food. No matter how many times I whack it, nothing happens. It doesn’t take any food away or anything, but it just doesn’t do anything. Help!! I really need it to work

I was having the same problem with my second wagon and asked about it and never got a respose so I finally deleted because I needed the room. I talked my kid into getting a second wagon and letting me have the bonuses and his did the samething

      • Cindy says:

I will wait and see if anyone responds to my post for a few days, before I delete the wagon. This is so frustrating, because what’s the point of having the wagon if you can’t use it, and nobody will tell you if there is a solution.

A week or more ago I completed the task of buying a second wagon and whacking it. I then designed it to match my homestead decor. The following day it had turned from blue to tan and won’t let me change the color. It says the same as y’all’s……..0/0 whacks and one food. When I whack it, it accomplishes nothing. I can’t collect bonuses either. The only option it gives me is to delete it, but I don’t wanna!!!

Most players seem to be having a problem posting tools to their neighbors walls. Hopefully it is something the developers are working on.
