FarmVille: Free Fuel Week Begins!

The FarmVille Free Fuel Week has begun, allowing you to earn 1/5th of a tank each consecutive day you log into the game. With the recent release of the Lord of The Plow ribbon, this surely will help everyone reach their goal. Granted, 1/5th of a tank is not much plow power, but every little bit that is free certainly helps!

You can also gift an additional 1/5th tank to each of your FarmVille friends and neighbors daily – increasing the potential amount received by everyone.

On the top left of your screen, you will see a gas can as shown below. Clicking this will post another 1/5th tank of fuel to your news feed, giving friends a third opportunity to build up their fuel stash. This button appears often, allowing you to post multiple times daily. So be kind and share – helping those not wanting to pay for fuel earn the new ribbon

FarmVille Multiple Chicken Coop Cheat Busted

Since the release of FarmVille Chicken Coops, hundreds of people have asked us how to obtain more than just 1 coop. The lure of Mystery Eggs, especially Golden Mystery Eggs, has everyone begging to know!

Initially their was a glitch in the game, that allowed you to have FarmVille open in 2 different browsers, enabling the possibility of placing more than one coop on your farm at a time. Zynga fixed this glitch back on December 10th, and it no longer works. (hence us not posting the full details)

However, the thousands of players that took advantage of this glitch, so far have been able to keep the extra coops – except for those that have been caught. Getting caught costs you your FarmVille game account, and possibly your Facebook account as well.

During the Christmas holidays Zynga offered a Best Farms contest; inviting players to submit their farms in the hopes of winning a prize. Unfortunately, some of those players were not thinking! There were numerous farms submitted, showing the use of multiple chicken coops!

Needless to say, many of those players are now slinging food over at Cafe World – their farming days are over…

If you are going to use an illegal game cheat, try and remember not to wave it in the developers’ face

This new strategy game is based on EA’s game released in back in February, and is adapted for Facebook by Lolapps, Inc. From the developers:

Become Dante, returning home from the Crusades to find your wife has been murdered and her soul sent to Hell. Fight through the Nine Circles of Hell and get Beatrice back!

Facebook Scam Alert: Facebook Profile Spy – Updated Jan 3

Profile Spy Scam

There is another scam floating around Facebook the past few days, offering to send you a notification every time someone views your profile. The group is called Profile Spy, and amazingly, it has built up almost half a million members in just a few days – 350,000 in the last 48 hours alone.

We strongly advise you NOT to join this group, let alone invite any of your friends to join either. The group has been set up by a child, about 16 years old (based on his profile stats), bragging that he wants 412,000 members by January 12th, “cuz dats my birthday”. His language alone should be a red flag that this is a farce.

Farce or not, what’s worrying about this is the “activation link” that you will supposedly receive once he reaches his goal. Since Profile Spy has been set up as a group, and not an application, this kid has the ability to email everyone who has joined, and include whatever malicious content he wishes in that email.

If you receive an email to your Facebook Inbox from Profile Spy, we strongly recommend you do NOT click it.

Here is the group:

and now a second has appeared at:

Here is some further proof this program is bogus:

1. The photo he uses as his spy proof above has been clearly forged. If you look closely, you will see cut and paste lines where he has supposedly had people view his profile.

2. The kid graduates high school in 2012. This makes him about 15-16, and very unlikely the developer of this sort of application.

3. It is not even set up as an application! If it truly integrated with Facebook, it would be useless to set it up as a group. It would need to be an application for it to be fully functional.

4. There is too much controversy right now about tracking profile views. Many users feel it is an invasion of privacy, as as such, reputable developers have left this mammoth idea alone.

Here is his instructions about what you must do to join:

Thanks to those who brought this group to our attention, and hopefully we helped a few of you make a more educated decision about joining.

UPDATED: JANUARY 1, 2010

As you will read below, we received a few comments from the creator of this group. He demanded we remove his picture; stating we did not have permission to use his name and photo, and that we didn’t have his parents permission.

Firstly, HE CHOSE to create the group with his name and photo, on a social group, making it public property. He also created that group under the assumption it was with parental knowledge and consent. I am sure Facebook will see it the same way.

He also claims to have created the group for fun because he was “bored”, and that I should have noticed that there was an update to the group once the goal of 412,000 members was met. He says no links will be sent.

However, here is the update he posted at 2pm EST, after we made our post yesterday:

Profile Spy Scam Update

As you can see from his own update, he STILL claims “the link WILL 100% be POSTED for EVERYONE” – the complete opposite of what he claims in his comments made below.

The new goal of the group is 2,121,121 – 250,000 have joined since we posted 24 hours ago.

The group has now turned into a spam site. He is posting links to videos and products for sale – to serve his own purpose. I find it extremely ironic that he is claiming we cannot legally post his name and picture without his parents consent because he is underage, yet the link he posts for an ebook available at Clickbank.com, requires you to be at least 18 years of age to sell Hmmmm…..

This kid needs to realize you can’t have it both ways…But with 2 million people joining, there will definitely be a few to fall for his childish antics….

UPDATED: JANUARY 3, 2010

The teenage creator of the Profile Spy group is at it again! Yesterday he actually had the nerve to post that he was thinking of deleting the group, because so many of us were “too immature to understand” that it had been created only for fun. He also went on to explain that there was no Profile Spy link and that there never was one coming. Unfortunately, before I could get a screenshot of that comment, he deleted all posts in the group, and changed his name. I assumed this was going to be the end of the group…. I was wrong.

The kid changed his actual name on Facebook, to Ramdon Person – unbelievable. I assume “ramdon” was used in place of “random”. The word ‘random’ most likely was caught in Facebooks name filters….lol

Starting 8 hours ago, he began reposting details on how to join, invite everyone, and the latest group member goal. Oh yes, and he also re-posted the link to some rap video – most likely a friend. Ironically, or not, that friend ALSO has a Profile Spy group located at:

Here are the latest post screenshots (to preserve in case he changes again!)

Profile Spy NEW Instructions - Jan 3

Profile Spy Update - Jan 3

What amazes me, is that not only have over 1.1 million people joined this group, but the fact Facebook has not yet shut it down, despite numerous scam reportings to them about it…

UPDATED: JANUARY 3, 2010 #2

The original group discussed above, along with the creator, has now been banned from Facebook

However, his friends’ group still remains:
– now banned

And, another deceptive one called Profile Watcher, is gathering steam with over 600,000 members…

What Makes A Great Game: A Gentle Reminder for Programmers

It's easy to get lost in all the details of building a great video or computer game - so easy in fact, that we can forget the parts of a game that make them fun to play. The following serves as a gentle reminder of what prompts players to play games in the first place. Refer to this reminder in the event that you get bogged down or distracted with confusing C++ syntax, or lines and lines of Visual Basic statements and DLL structures.

1. Remember the player is the main character. Here's a secret between you and me: People play games to gain a sense of control. If you can manage to program your game in a way that puts the player in control, then you’ve already won half the battle. This doesn't mean to suggest that the game should be easy.

2. KISS. Remember that acronym? It stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. We all know that programming a game is hard business, but believe us when we say we don’t want to be reminded of it. The difficulty of programming a game should never be part of the game play so when possible, make the game easy to start, easy to navigate, and of course, easy to play.

3. Add plenty of action. And add lots of it too. The more action you add to your game, the more attention players will pay attention to it. And the more that players pay attention to your game, the more addictive your game gets. For every action that a player’s character makes, have the game react and then prompt the player for more.

4. Make the story a good one. Nothing is worse than playing a game only to wonder what you're doing and why. Purpose is and always has been a human obsession. But without it, we’re left wandering… in the darkness… wondering bizarre things like how the house would look in a coat of bright pink paint. Don’t give your players the opportunity to waste time like that. Give them a mission and make sure your game reminds them what the mission is at opportune times and why they must complete it.

5. Give us eye candy. But make it relevant. The graphics in a game shouldn't be distracting , they should make our eyeballs glaze over with satisfaction upon seeing them, and then salivate for more. Graphics should contain clues and entice us further and further into the game until we’ve beaten the thing.

6. Make it real. Fantasy games are okay, but what makes them cool is the fact that they’re realistic. It’s hard to get into something that isn’t familiar or that there’s no way we could ever experience. But if you can implement some reality into your games, players will appreciate it and relate to it on a whole new respectable level.

Top 10 Facebook Applications For December 28, 2009

As the year comes to a close, this is the last Top 10 list that we will be posting for 2009!

There are not many changes in this weeks list – just a jostling of positioning for our regulars. FarmVille of course still firmly holds onto the #1 spot, with very little movement in total users over the holiday.

This week’s Top 10:

Top 10 Facebook Applications For December 28, 2009

Source: http://appdata.com

There are plenty of new faces on this weeks Top Gainers list, including two super applications to round out your year on Facebook.

is a neat application that pulls a random selection of your status’s from the year, and puts them into a collage. You have a choice of templates to post them onto, and can edit up the caption you wish to appear. Unfortunately you cannot select which specific status updates appear on the list, but the application is new and hopefully open for improvement. Definitely worth your time to take a look.

By the same developer as above, has also been released. Similar to the Status collage, this takes 16 random photos from your albums and places them into a collage. Here you can choose which ones you would like to appear, as well as the look of the frame the photos appear in. I absolutely love this idea and it was fun clicking through the photos to make up our image. This app falls just short of our Top 10 list (#13), but I suspect will be near the top next week.

Toping the list this week is a new application geared specifically for the Italian community on Facebook. gives users the opportunity to connect as the application has been completely designed in Italian. Definitely worth a look if you are looking for a little Italy!

CrowdStar, the developers of Happy Aquarium and Happy Pets, has released its latest virtual world – . Reviews so far are very positive and as the players flock over, the game will definitely grow and expand. Worth a look

Top 10 Facebook Applications For December 21, 2009

With the busy holiday season upon us, our Top 10 Facebook Applications list is proving people are finding a little less time to visit their favorite applications over the past week.

The overall monthly average users for almost all of our Top 10 list dropped this past week, with the exception of FarmVille and Birthday Cards. Causes lost another 3 million users, FarmVille experienced a very modest gain of players, and Birthday Cards zoomed up to our #3 spot.

A new addition to the list this week is in the #10 position. As more people are on the go, out and about, this app that integrates Facebook onto your iPhone is surely going to get even more popular this season.

Here is this weeks list:

Nothing overly exciting appearing on our Top 10 Gainers this week. Most of the apps experiencing gains are seasonal ones that will most likely be dropping off in the next week or two. However, it is interesting to see that Zynga’s new PetVille seems to be growing much slower than it’s popular sister games; FishVille, Cafe World and FarmVille.

Fake “Free FarmVille Cash” Promises Frustrate Players

There has been a rash of fan pages, applications and groups started lately, promising FarmVille players a boatload of Free FarmVille Cash, or Free Mystery Boxes, that has millions not only disappointed, but rake waving mad. Some of these scams even go as far as claiming to be “official Zynga initiatives”, as I will show below.

In a nutshell, these programs, offers, and deals are scams. You will not receive 500 Free FarmVille Cash in 24 hours, there is no Free FarmVille Cash Program being offered by Zynga, and you will not receive a free Mystery Box within 6 days of inviting all your friends…

That is the whole point of these fake offers – inviting friends to join. The more fans and members these pages have, the more people the creator has to either market other products to, or names built up for ulterior motives.

Here is just 3 of the so-called FarmVille programs we have chosen to showcase, affecting the largest number of people. Keep in mind, there are many more out there:

1.

Over 121,000 people have fallen for this one…

As you can see below from this one, they claim to be Zynga, working towards increasing the number of FarmVille players. They also state that in order to qualify for up to 100 free FarmVille cash, you need to invite all your friends and at least 15% must accept. At that point you will have $FV added to your “balance”.

Firstly, we manage a Facebook Fan page, and there is NO way to see who invites who, nor how many people accepted invitations. Fan page creators can only see a list of fans; the exact same list you see on the left side of any fan page.

Secondly, there is no “balance” on a Fan page, therefore there is nowhere to add the $FV. They are trying to fool you into thinking it will appear in your FarmVille account balance, but, fan pages are not directly linked to applications, therefore it is impossible for them to know your account details.

However, what worries me about this one is their so-called “verification” process. There is NO verification process to become a fan. If you are required to enter ANY of your personal information what-so-ever, you are most likely going to become the victim of a hacking attempt.

2.

Over 46,000 people have fallen for this one…

As you can see below, this one claims to be an “official Zynga initiative”, which simply is not true. Supposedly, all you need to do is invite all your friends, and 500 $FV will be awarded to you. As mentioned above, it is not possible to track who invites who on fan pages. Simply stay clear of this one.

3.

Over 113,000 people have fallen for this one…

Following the same scheme as the others, this one requires you to send the invite to at least 70% of your friends, or else be “disqualified” from receiving a FarmVille Mystery Box.

There are also numerous other gifting applications out there, that while are not intended to defraud or scam anyone, do end up leaving the participant extremely frustrated.

We have had numerous questions sent to our Quickie Q & A section asking why players cannot find their “gifts” in their FarmVille accounts. This is because these gifting applications are purely for entertainment. When you send a gift to your friend, all they can do with it is look at it. It cannot be integrated into their FarmVille farm.

While these types of gifting groups are harmless, and fun for many who love to collect things, those expecting to actually receive the item to use on their farms are going to end up sorely disappointed.

Here is an example of one such application, that not only has frustrated many, but has gathered a whopping 6.5 million users. Most likely almost all of them expecting to receive the actual gift.

Once again I will say that these gifting applications are not scams – just more of an annoyance than anything.

Avoid Disappointment!

The only place you can send or receive actual FarmVille gifts, $FV cash, or FarmVille Mystery boxes is on the actual FarmVille Game Application, or on their website FarmVille.com itself. Zynga offers no other programs or promotions, outside of any contests/offers/etc detailed on their own application Fan page, or within the actual game itself.

I hope this has saved a few of you out there from getting burned!!

Penguins Coming To A FarmVille Farm Near You?

During one of the FarmVille podcasts last week, Zynga hinted that these fine feathered friends would be coming soon to a farm near you! So far, no further word as to how they will arrive.

It could be:

  • 1. A lost animal to adopt
  • 2. Available to purchase in the Market
  • 3. A prize inside one of our Christmas Gifts available December 24th
  •

Stay close and we will update as soon as we know!

Top 10 Facebook Applications For December 14, 2009

Here we are with this weeks Top 10 Facebook Applications list, yet again!

Cafe World has moved right up into the #2 spot, while both Causes and Social Interview lost between 3,000,000 and 4,000,000 actively monthly users over this past week. I suspect the “newness” of Social Interview wearing off is the root of its’ drop, but if anyone has any insight into Causes dropping so drastically, we would love to hear your opinions in the Comments section below!

Birthday Cards makes its first appearance on our list this week; the result of millions sending Holiday Greeting cards to friends and family.

Top 10 Facebook App Gainers For December 14, 2009

Our Top Gainer this week is PetVille, just as we predicted it would be in our Top List for December 7th post. PetVille accumulated 10+ million players over the past week and is sure to be on our Top 10 list soon.

The balance of the Gainers list is mostly Christmas related applications, but we did do a little digging and found a super app called for those of you celebrating Hanukkah
